Cristiano Ronaldo's 2008 Ballon d'Or Voted Best in Award's History by Fans
The award's official website conducted a poll in which the 2008 version of the Portuguese player outperformed Lionel Messi's 2012 version.

In 2008, forward Cristiano Ronaldo played 49 matches for Manchester United and scored 42 goals. Among his trophies that season were the Champions League, the Premier League, and the FIFA Club World Cup; in addition, he won the FA Community Shield and received the European Golden Shoe. FIFA and UEFA named the Portuguese player the Player of the Year.
Only two footballers made it into the top five: Ronaldo took three spots, while Messi took two. Each vote cost 1 euro, but the number of votes was not limited.
The 41-year-old Ronaldo has won the Ballon d'Or five times. In 2026, Harry Kane, the England national team forward, received this award for the first time.
